The Worker by LaShawnda Jones is a Bible study exploring the males’ role as friend of God, husband to woman, father to children and leader of family.
The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. ~ Genesis 2:15
“Men are forfeiting their good thing.”
Popular culture represents manhood as a carefree, faithless and unfettered existence: multiple partners + no commitment = a lot of fun…until there is an obligation to marry. God did not give Adam that option. God created Adam; put him to work; then gave him one woman who was made to help him with his assignment.
Man is foremost a worker and a caretaker – he was created to labor and to provide. Husbands are explicitly instructed to “love their wives, just as Christ loved the church… to give up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.”
Dear Worker, are you modeling yourself after Christ? Do you perform God’s word obediently? Do you love your wife unselfishly and sacrificially – keeping her holy in the presence of God?
In The Worker, we explore how a husband is intended to follow the example of Jesus Christ. When a man aligns himself with Jesus’s teachings and seeks to become more and more Christ-like, his obedience allows the Spirit of God to operate though him in his roles as worker, husband and head of household.
The MeatyWord Series is comprised of Bible studies dedicated to exploring fundamental life principles. We know it can be a daunting and overwhelming endeavor to apply Biblical principles to daily life – our work is to provide a resource to help combat pop culture practices that impede growth, while building you in the Kingdom of Heaven.
